Through a New Lens: Film and Culture as Catalysts for Change - Summit Lab
ARTISTS & EXPERTS:
Amanda Farrand
Derek Johnson (Moderator)
DAY:
Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025
LOCATION:
Jim Santy Auditorium
DETAILS:
Storytelling has long played a central role in how people view society and the way they fit in it. But too often, movies portray the country as fatally flawed, often stoking division. Imagine Entertainment (the creative force behind iconic films like Apollo 13, Friday Night Lights, A Beautiful Mind, and more), has instead set the standard for inspiring stories of human achievement that bring people together. Now, as we approach America’s 250th anniversary in 2026, film, television, and music have a profound opportunity—and responsibility—to shape how we see one another. Derek Johnson, Executive Vice President at Stand Together, and Amanda Farrand, Executive Vice President of Imagine, explore how today, more than ever, film and culture can help us build a more united future.

Summit Labs
Summit Labs are the heartbeat of our event and are presented by the Song Summit Foundation. They are discussions that dissect, illuminate, and interrogate the art of music and songwriting. They create an environment of inclusivity that promotes discussion of mental health, substance recovery, representation, and social equity in addition to all things music. A diverse group of artists will lead talks on their own while others will work with subject experts. Labs take place at Jim Santy Auditorium in the City Park Library.
