A discussion on the powerful work of SongwritingWith:Soldiers with Music Director, Jay Clementi and songwriter, Danny Myrick.
SongwritingWith:Soldiers is a non-profit organization that uses collaborative songwriting as a catalyst for positive change. It pairs veterans and their families with professional songwriters through three-day retreats and workshops across the U.S. The songs are recorded and shared through streaming, concerts, and social media in order to bridge understanding between military and civilian communities, ultimately building awareness of the challenges faced by our returning service members. Since 2012, SW:S has held more than 70 weekend retreats and 1000+ collaborative songwriting sessions for nearly 2,000 veterans, service members, and their families, and produced more than 1000 songs to date. Songs are recorded professionally with the participants as co-writers. All songs can be streamed for free. Jay has been working with SongwritingWith:Soldiers since 2012 and became Music Director of the organization in 2020.
The key element of Park City Song Summit are Summit Labs — discussions that dissect, illuminate, and interrogate the art of music and songwriting. They create an environment of inclusivity that promotes discussion of mental health, substance recovery, representation, and social equity in addition to all things music. A diverse group of artists will lead talks on their own while others will work with subject experts.
