Songwriter Stage

Hear the stories behind the hit songs you know and love as award-winning songwriters share their inspiration and passion behind creating some of our favorite tunes.

Steve Poltz is a road dog and performance junkie, as well as a skilled songwriter who has penned hit songs like Jewel's "You Were Meant for Me". Over the years, the Nashville-based troubadour has built a fascinating solo catalog, earmarked by his debut, One Left Shoe, Dreamhouse, Folk Singer, and 2019’s Shine On. Among other collaborations, GRAMMY-winning bluegrass phenom Billy Strings tapped him to co-write “Leaders” on 2021’s Renewal and he’s co-written with Molly Tuttle, Sierra Hull, Nicki Bluhm, Oliver Wood and even Mojo Nixon.

Earl Bud Lee is a longtime Nashville songwriting legend. He's been blessed with three big Number Ones starting in 1990. His first being the ever popular "Friends in Low Places" for Garth Brooks. Then came "One Night at a Time" for George Strait and "Who are You When I'm Not Looking" Blake Shelton.

Jay Clementi had a Billboard #1 with Luke Bryan’s “Move” in 2017 and has had songs recorded by Dierks Bentley, Sara Evans, Martina McBride, Darius Rucker, Sunny Sweeney, Radney Foster, The Josh Abbott Band, CB30 and a song featured on the hit show Nashville, totaling over 5 million records sold. Jay sang harmony on Willie Nelson’s Grammy-nominated album The Songs Of Cindy Walker. Jay is also the Music Director for SongwritingWith:Soldiers, a non-profit that pairs professional songwriters with veterans and their families at retreats throughout the country.
