87 DAYS UNTIL SONG SUMMIT!

Porch Talking the Blues

DETAILS:

ARTISTS & EXPERTS:
Adia Victoria
Celisse
Tressie McMillan Cottom (Moderator)

DAY & TIME:
Thursday, Sept. 7, 2023
3:00 - 4:00 PM

LOCATION:
Forum Tent

DETAILS:
A Panel Discussion of the Radical Southern, Black, Femme Roots of the Blues.

Liberating our understanding and absorption of the Blues from its 1,4,5 existence, the panel interrogates the Blues and its impact on the senses. Poet, scholar and social commentator, Adia Victoria will be joined by essayist, social critic, NY Times columnist and MacArthur Genius Grant recipient Tressie McMillan Cottom and musician and producer Celisse to explore the radical subjectivity in the lives of southern Black women that sits at the heart of the call and response structure of the Blues song. With the honesty, humor and wit of their southern Blues foremothers, the panel will highlight not just the Blues potential for feeling good, but also the potential to speak back against the creep of white supremacy and patriarchal violence that features as a constant in American society.

Summit
Labs

The key element of Park City Song Summit are Summit Labs — discussions that dissect, illuminate, and interrogate the art of music and songwriting. They create an environment of inclusivity that promotes discussion of mental health, substance recovery, representation, and social equity in addition to all things music. A diverse group of artists will lead talks on their own while others will work with subject experts.
