DETAILS:
The Embodied Poetics of Blues Speech and Blues Movement.
Expanding on the radical subjectivity of blueswomen, ‘How She Moves’ is a performance of the poetics of Blues speech. Poets Caroline Randall Williams, Ciona Rouse, and Adia Victoria braid their voices together in poetry to embody Blues thought, prose, and the bodies of southern Black women. Joining forces with Celisse, their poems and songs will speak to the hidden lives of Blues foremothers from Bessie Smith, Ma Rainey to Billie Holiday. Embodying their performance of “How She Move” is an original choreography from South Carolina artist, dancer and choreographer Gabriel Terry.
